(1950, Novosibirsk, – 2015, St. Petersburg):
Honored Artist of Russia, famous musician having served in the Mariinsky Theatre for over 30 years. This truly European artist, incarnating the modern history of the Mariinsky Theatre, is known for his outstanding spirituality and patriotic commitment. Faithful ally of Valery Gergiev, he headed a number of classical music-related projects across Russia (Vyborg, Novgorod, Ivangorod, Tikhvin). Open to progress and innovation, he focused on future generations in his every activity, trying to create opportunities and open new horizons for young musicians, supporting them in many ways. In this light, he initiated the Open Air Opera project at the open stage of the Vyborg castle (Russia's only 13th century fortress) and launched the rehabilitation of the “Song Festival Grounds”, a 1938 architectural monument, which has hosted festivals since the project was completed in 2010.
To uphold the traditions initiated by this renowned musician, the decision was made to set up the Viacheslav Lupachev Foundation in Vyborg, with a view to support young musicians and organise concerts, opera performances, festivals and programmes for children and youth.
Upcoming projects of the Viacheslav Lupachev Foundation include the Singing Baltika International Children and Youth Choir Festival, bringing together choirs from the Baltic Stated (Russia, Estonia, and Finland), scheduled for the 1st of June 2017 at the Vyborg Song Festival Grounds, and the Music of the royal road festival, to be held once the renovation of the Vyborg Castle is completed.
